Jacques Tatischeff (1908-1982) was one of the great icons of French cinema, a Gallic equivalent of Chaplin or Keaton, whose works as director, writer, and actor are regarded fondly by audiences as well as harder-to-please critics. Like a true film maker, Tati essentially made only one kind of film, in his case, the physical comedy. The main protagonist of all his movies is also his screen alter ego, the ubiquitous Monsieur Hulot. AFP PHOTO INTERCONTINENTALE (Photo credit should read AFP/AFP/Getty Images)
The Olympic Games held in London in 1908, known as the Games of the IV Olympiad, were held between April 27 and October 31.
Although the venue chosen by the Olympic Committee had been Rome, the eruption of Mount Vesuvius on April 7, 1907, forced the Italian government to devote all its efforts to the reconstruction of the city of Naples, which had been completely devastated.
