Ces images sont extraites de BLAZE, une série de photographies de paysages à grande échelle qui explorent le feu comme un élément fondamental de l’expérience australienne, tant ancienne que contemporaine, du territoire.
Fredericks intervient dans les zones australiennes des systèmes fluviaux éphémères, fragilisées par des facteurs environnementaux, en utilisant des méthodes non destructives. Il juxtapose des arbres en flammes et des incendies à de vastes lacs et cours d’eau inondés lors des épisodes La Niña de 2022/23.

The spark that starts the blaze is from her own crown. She sets fire to her Queendom, her whole world alight, raising her dominion to the ground.
She fades away with the smoke and ash that falls, resting grey and cool on the earth. And in that space she hands over the world, clear and ashen black, ready for the sun and rain to take their place and create the world a new. »
